# Job Description
As a Corporate Banking Underwriter I, you will assess and respond to client product needs that contain an element of risk consistent with PNC's credit policies and return considerations. You will administer a portfolio of credit relationships while interacting with other underwriting staff, Credit Officers, Relationship Managers, bank management, and clients and prospects. You will develop your loan structuring and pricing skills and utilize your portfolio management experience to most effectively present PNC to our customers.
In this role, you will:
Prepare timely, high-quality analytical work upon which reliance is placed in the credit approval process
Provide complete offerings for specialized and complex lending situations that analyze financial data, assess industry and accounting issues, and evaluate loan structure to determine the creditworthiness and financial condition of clients
Identify most major and some secondary credit issues
Coordinate the receipt and evaluate the thoroughness of collateral valuations consistent with bank standards
Recommend credit structuring and documentation (in partnership with Credit Officer and Relationship Manager) of transactions, including setting up loan structure, working with counsel, negotiating loan documents, and closing
Participate actively in and may conduct independent due diligence meetings with clients/prospects. Partners on calls with Relationship Managers and Credit Officers; degree of interaction with clients/prospects depends on LOB
Monitor credit quality of portfolios by reviewing various system reports and evaluation tools, ensuring timely administration within PNC policy
Prepare timely annual and periodic reviews, and the satisfactory resolution of credit deficiencies such as collateral exceptions and covenant violations
Establish risk ratings in conjunction with Relationship Managers, prepare SAC reports, participate in portfolio review meetings, and manage criticized assets with assistance of CRC
Operate independently but model strong teamwork skills both inside and outside the department. Assist with interview process to attract talent to the team, and assist with the training of new underwriters and Corporate Credit Development Program Analysts. May be involved with various special projects in underwriting and/or Credit Policy.
The successful candidate will have the following
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting. or business related field, or equivalent experience
Participation in line or credit activities typically for a period of 3-6 years
Relevant industry experience desired
Possesses the ability to manage smaller or less complex client credit requests from origination to approval in a timely fashion, while adhering to bank credit policies and risk management guidelines
Must be self-motivated and proficient in time management skills
Communicates effectively with internal/external individuals from diverse backgrounds; other parties may include Regulators, Credit Policy, Credit Audit, and outside auditors. Keeps others informed of relevant information.
